On Day Two as ExitEvent editor, I made my way to Capitol Broadcasting Co. to meet with a man I'd heard only rumors about for the last 15 months.His name is Rick Smith and he can typically be found from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. cranking out tech news in the middle of the WRAL newsroom in Raleigh, all so you can read the two daily TechWire e-newsletters at 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Rick knows everyone in the tech community and everything about it dating back 20 years. Before that, he was a sports reporter. Oh, and he's from the Midwest (Indiana), a man after my own heart.
Rick and I share a parent company in Capitol Broadcasting, and a mission to inform and educate the region's people about its tech community. We're going about that mission differently—ExitEvent by focusing on early stage entrepreneurs and TechWire by covering all tech and life science happenings. But it only made sense that we find a way to partner.
