Launch Durham hosts its 2nd Launch Day tonight in Bay 7 at American Tobacco. Launch Durham is an independent for-profit organization, run by Scott Kelly of KeySource bank. KeySource is a sponsor, along with private equity firm 8 Rivers Capital, law firm Smith Anderson, interactive ad agency Media Two, strategic marketing consultants CMG Partners, and the American Underground, the very new, very exciting incubation arm of American Tobacco anchored by CED, LaunchBox Digital, and Joystick Labs.

It should be noted that Launch Day and Launch Durham aren't associated in any way with LaunchBox Digital.

We were at the original Launch Day, which we wrote about in advance after meeting with Scott and giving him props for attempting to pull something out of nothing. And pull he did, as Launch Day went off without a hitch, to mostly good feedback.

The feedback that wasn't glowing provided the changes between this version of Launch Day and its predecessor. So by all accounts, this one should be better.

For instance they're moving the voting responsibility to the audience and giving away a prize package that includes everything from lunch with VCs to office furniture to 18 holes of golf plus a lot of consulting and advice.

From 4:00 to 5:30, any entrepreneur who is attending the event is invited for what's called a "fireside chat" with Chaz Felix and Joe Colopy from Bronto and Henry Kaestner from Bandwidth, and then some entrepreneur-only networking. But entrepreneur is this context is basically anyone starting or thinking about starting a company, or a student.

5:30 - 6:00 is registration and networking with food provided. With the wattage of early, middle, and late stage entrepreneurs, investors, advisors, and so-and-sos in the room, you're going to want to get there at 5:30.

The program starts at 6:00 with the requisite welcomes, chats, and talks, and this includes an update from the previous Launch day presenters -- Ruzuku, Argyle Social Media, NeoBudget, and Buzzbox.

Then the actual presentations begin, with seven companies presenting this time, and more about them here.

At 7:00, the voting begins. At 7:15 the winner is announced. And at 7:30 the post-event networking continues.

Early registration is over so it's 30 bucks to go, but it's free for students. You'll need to register online here.

More events like these are exactly what the RTP needs to grow its early stage ecosystem and population. So the more people go, and even more importantly, the more people connect at events like Launch Day, the better off we'll all be. We'll be there, hope to see you there, and make sure you say hello.
